The government has received a Development Project Proposal (DPP) for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, with an estimated cost of Tk10,100 crore. The university will be built on 50 acres of land in Gazipur’s Koliakoir district.
According to the proposal, approximately Tk4,580 crore has been spent on land acquisition and infrastructure development. However, the University Grants Commission (UGC) believes that the project should not cost more than Tk1,000 crore. According to UGC sources, the project proposal was submitted last year, with an estimated cost of Tk10,451 and a completion date of 2025 beginning in June 2022. However, following a review by the university regulatory body, they cut costs by nearly Tk400 crore. The estimated cost of the four-story mosque is Tk79 crore, the swimming pool is Tk23 crore, two five-story lecture halls are Tk106 crore, two-story scholar plaza is Tk71 crore, two walking and driveways are Tk13 crore, eight-story super computing is Tk79 crore, seven-story incubation center is Tk71 crore, a six-story library is Tk40 crore, seven-story teachers student center is Tk200 crore, six-story sports complex Furthermore, the university’s five buildings are expected to cost Tk 7 crore.
The 11-story dormitories for 4,000 male and female students are estimated to cost Tk403 crore, a 16-story building for 120 junior teachers to cost Tk166 crore, two 16-story buildings for 240 senior teachers to cost Tk280 crore, three 21-story buildings for the staff to cost Tk354 crore, four 21-story departmental buildings to cost Tk1,060 crore, and the administrative building to cost Tk171 crore.
