In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, banks distributed 91.46 per cent of agriculture loans.
According to the most recent data released by the Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday, different scheduled banks disbursed agriculture credit totaling Tk25,966.73 crore during the July-May period of fiscal year 2021-22, compared to a target of Tk28,391 crore. Agriculture loan disbursements increased by 18.18 per cent in the current fiscal year compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. The target for government-owned commercial and specialized banks in FY’22 has been set at Tk11,045 crore. These banks disbursed Tk10,694 crore in the first 11 months (July-May), accounting for 96.83 per cent of the target.
The outstanding balance of agricultural credit in the banking sector is currently Tk49,551 crore. The defaulted debt in the agricultural sector was Tk3,652 crore, or 7.67 per cent of total agriculture credit, as of April.
