The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $41.4 million grant on Wednesday to help improve infrastructure and manage the basic needs of displaced Myanmar Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar.
The grant is the second phase of ADB’s ongoing Emergency Assistance Project, which began with a $100 million grant approved in 2018. The grant approved on Wednesday will fund the construction of 200 water and sanitation facilities, three solid waste management facilities, and the installation of a piped water supply system in Ukhiya.
It will, among other things, upgrade four health care facilities for severe acute respiratory infection, expand six primary health care and diagnostic centers in Teknaf, improve health care workers’ skills in the Cox’s Bazar district, and build a multipurpose disaster-resilient isolation center to assist with the Covid-19 response.
