The government has decided to re-establish emergency telecommunication services in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrakona, and other flood-affected districts in the country’s northern region using the Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) is providing all necessary equipment to rescuers in order to ensure continuous internet and other telecommunications services in remote northern areas. On Saturday, a total of 12 Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) devices — a wireless communication system that uses a small antenna and satellite terminal equipment — were handed over to the Bangladesh Army under the supervision of Md Khalilur Rahman, secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Division. Efforts are being made to establish two VSAT hubs in Netrakona and the country’s northern regions.
Furthermore, the office of the Sylhet divisional commissioner will receive 23 more VSAT devices, allowing it to re-establish communication with more flood-affected areas in the region.
