Too many trees in rural areas impede uninterrupted power supply, despite the fact that the country has no power production deficit, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told parliament on Tuesday.
In response to a question from ruling party lawmaker from Chattogram Mahfuzur Rahman, he stated that prior to 2009, 47 per cent of people in the country had access to electricity. He claims that in the last 13 years, it has been possible to provide electricity to 100 per cent of the population. The state minister also stated that work is being done to electrify 100 per cent of the people in Bangladesh Power Development Board areas. Tk1,614 crore was given in the fiscal year 2019-20, and Tk1,036 crore was given in the fiscal year 2020-21.
There are 26.42 trillion cubic feet of proven and potential reserves to be extracted. Shafiqul Islam Shimul, the state minister stated that after extracting 19.11 trillion cubic feet of gas from the beginning to the end of December 2021, the reserves in January 2022 amounted to 9.30 trillion cubic feet.
