In the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, Bangladesh reported 18 new dengue cases, ahead of the monsoon season.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, all 18 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka due to dengue fever, a viral infection (DGHS). Fifty-one dengue patients are being treated in hospitals, including 50 in the capital.
The DGHS has so far reported 338 dengue cases and 287 recoveries in the year 2022. However, no deaths have been documented as a result of the mosquito-borne virus.
Dengue fever and severe dengue have no specific treatment. Early detection of disease development associated with severe dengue and access to competent medical care, according to the World Health Organization, reduces severe dengue fatality rates to less than 1 per cent. In 2021, a total of 105 dengue patients died, with 95 of them dying in the Dhaka division alone.
