At the Kailash Tila Gas Field near Sylhet, a fresh gas deposit has been discovered in an abandoned well. The discovery was made late in Well No 7 by Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Business Ltd (Bapex), a state-owned oil exploration company.
The new layer is expected to produce 15 million cubic feet of gas each day, according to Bapex. Gas has been drawn from the well on an experimental basis at a pressure of 2,700 PSI for the past two days, according to a Bapex official who requested anonymity.
Bapex hopes to begin commercial production from the well as soon as possible because it still has all of the infrastructures from the last expedition, he said.
