The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined Tk 1.5 lakh on Base Camp, a resort in Gazipur, for deceiving its clients by not providing promised services.
A team of DNCRP led by its deputy director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar on Saturday carried out an inspection drive at Base Camp at Gazariapara, Rajendrapur in Gazipur following a complaint lodged by one of its clients Md Rakib Hasnet Suman.
Base Camp was fined Tk 1.5 lakh as per the consumer protection law as they found during the inspection that the complaint lodged against the resort was authentic. The directorate also issued a warning to Base Camp not to repeat such offence.
DNCRP held a hearing of both the complainant and the respondent and both of them were given enough time to defend their positions.
Suman on February 19 filed the complaint with the DNCRP against the resort, alleging that six families with children went to Base Camp on February 8 for overnight stay after booking. But, accommodation for family members including children were not sufficient, not as promised, in the resort while there were lack of other facilities regarding bathrooms, drinking water in the tents and mosquito control. Suman also alleged that all the tents became wet because of rains as there were leaks in the tents and there were more than 150 other guests in the crammed resort.
Following the complaint, the DNRCP held the hearing of both the parties at its Gazipur district office on June 19 before conducting the inspection.
