On May 31 in Geneva, Switzerland, a group of Bangladeshi apparel industry leaders met with Andr Picard, Chief Technical Adviser and Head, Actuarial Services Unit, and Anne-Marie La Rosa of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Faruque Hassan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Ardashir Kabir, Executive President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Mohammad Hatem, BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali, BGMEA Standing Committee Chair on ILO issue ANM Saifuddin, and Secretary-General for BEF Farooq Ahmed were among the delegation, according to BSS.
They also discussed an employment accident insurance system for Bangladesh’s RMG sector. The delegation informed the ILO about ongoing industry initiatives and programs, including the ILO’s Better Work Program in the RMG sector, which aims to improve working conditions in garment factories. They reaffirmed the industry’s unwavering commitment to building on the progress made thus far in guaranteeing a safe and decent workplace for workers, as well as their rights and well-being.
