The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the government to refrain from raising gas and power costs, claiming that doing so will harm the industry, economy, and general people.
In this context, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan submitted a letter to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources on May 25.
The RMG industry is already under significant strain from unusual raw material prices, anomalous shipping costs, and rising fuel prices, according to the letter. Any increase in power tariffs at this time will exacerbate the RMG industry’s problems by increasing production costs and eroding competitiveness. As a result, such a move will stymie the RMG industry’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, according to the letter.
