An e-auction will be organized by the Custom House to sell 125 luxury vehicles. These vehicles were sitting idle at the port for more than 8 years when the authorities found out that some were misusing the tax-free import facility known as ‘carnet’ using these vehicles.
The Custom House has begun the procedure for e-auction following the approval of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). These vehicles are Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar and Lexus worth more than Tk1 Crore each.
As per the carnet facility, eminent foreign citizens and foreign nationals of Bangladesh origin can use luxury vehicles without paying for taxes for a certain period.
As stated by the deputy commissioner of the auction department of the Custom House, organizations and individuals with their updated trade licenses, copy of VAT registration certificate or TIN certificate, individual applications along with copy of their national IDs and TIN certificate and a bank draft or a pay order of 10% of the proposed price.
