As per regulation motorcycles with engines higher than 165cc barrier are allowed to be manufactured or imported in Bangladesh. This regulation is likely to remain in place till 2023.
As per Motorcycle Industry Development Policy 2018, motorcycles with 500cc engines are allowed to be exported.
The Bangladesh Motorcycle Assemblers and Manufacturers Association (BMAMA) has been requesting the government not to authorize motorcycles with higher engine capacity as the sector has invested Tk8,000 Crore following the current regulation.
About 133,044 new motorcycles have been registered till May, 2021according to data published by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) stating that the demand for high performance bikes is rising among enthusiasts.
