DSEX, the benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange reached a new high on Sunday. The bourse crossed the 7,000-point mark for the first time since its inception in 2013 due to the bets and prompt purchase of optimistic investors.
The key index soared 71.8 points or 1.03 per cent on the day to a new high of 7,053 points. The DS-30, the blue-chip index, rose 37 points to 2,533.
The market capitalization of Dhaka bourse stood at the historically highest level of Tk 5,69, 284 crore.
The market turnover has increased by 16 per cent to Tk 2,868 crore over the last session from Tk 2,474 crore a day earlier. The engineering sector dominated the turnover chart covering 11.19 per cent of total turnover.
Of the total 375 issues traded, 208 advanced, 130 declined and 37 remained unchanged on the Dhaka bourse on the day.
The major sectors whose prices have been appreciated are Tannery, Jute, and Paper & Printing sectors experienced price appreciation while General Insurance, Life Insurance and Mutual Fund faced correction.
Beximco Limited topped the turnover list followed by LafargeHolcim, Beximco Pharma, LankaBangla Finance and Doreen Power.
ADN Telecom became the top gainer, earned 10 per cent while SEML FBLSL Growth Fund was the worst loser of 9.83 per cent.
