A virtual press briefing held on 6th of July where Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made the announcement that the government sets export earnings target at $51 billion for FY 2021-2022 with projection of 12.37 per cent growth for FY 2021-2020. Export-oriented industry leaders were present during the briefing.
From the target, $ 43.50 billion will come from goods shipment with a growth of 12.23 per cent and $7.5 billion from services with a growth of 13.15 per cent.
The increased export earnings of the last year showed the recovery of the readymade garments (RMG) sector from the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bangladesh brought $ 45.39 billion from export earnings in the just concluded fiscal year, the commerce minister said.
However, out of total earnings of export, about 38.75 billion were earned from goods exports which records a growth of 15.10 per cent in FY 2020-21 while $33.67 billion was in FY 2019-20.
