The implementation of many fast-track projects were slowed for the pandemic and other reasons but now they are gradually progressing according to a report by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED).
The report also stated that while Padma bridge is nearing completion, the Rooppur nuclear power plant has physically progressed 39.64 per cent as of September 2021. For now about 38.18 per cent of the project fund has been spent. The total cost of the project is Tk113,092 Crore which is set to be constructed by 2025. The project director also stated that 50 per cent of the construction work will be completed by December 2021.
For the Padma multipurpose bridge, IMED reported that about 86.25 per cent of the funding has been spent where the project physically progressed 88 per cent. All road slabs which connect both sides of the river to the runway to the roadway of the Padma bridge.
The Padma bridge rail link project has seen a physical progress of 44.50 per cent utilizing 49.85 per cent of the fund. The total cost of the project is Tk39,246.80 Crore. A 169-kilometre rail line will be built to connect the capital with Jashore via the Padma bridge. The revised deadline of the project is 2024.
The physical progress of a Maitri super thermal power plant is at 70.56 per cent where about 70.68 per cent of the fund has been utilized till September. Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and NTPC Ltd. of India are under the charge of the project with a cost of Tk16,000 Crore.
