The government will inaugurate 4 new power plants and upgrade one power plant to generate 779 MW of electricity.
The 4 new plants are Bibiyana-III 400 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant in Habiganj, Jhulda 100 MW Power Plant Unit-2 in Chattogram, Meghnaghat 104 MW Power Plant in Narayanganj, and Modhumoti 100 MW Power Plant in Bagerhat. The 150 MW Power Plant in Sylhet has been upgraded to 225 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant.
All of the power plants will be connected to the national grid as stated by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
The director for public relations of BPDB stated that the prime minister will inaugurate the 5 plants by video conference from Gono Bhaban on September 12.
As of now Bangladesh currently generates about 25,235MW of electricity which includes captive power as stated by the state minister for the power, energy and mineral resources (MPER) to the news agency, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
