In the capital, food costs are rising despite forecasts of impending severe food problems, including famine in other parts of the world.
According to data made public by government organizations, prices of rice, wheat, and other food staples have gone up 7–14 percent in the capital’s markets over the past month. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has recently warned of the crises’ impending threat.
