Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, announced on Sunday that the government has decided to use an area-based shutdown of factories on different days of the week to address the ongoing power crisis.
The state minister made the announcement following a discussion with business leaders at Dhaka’s Bidyut Bhaban. To address the ongoing energy crisis, the government began enforcing daily one-hour area-based load-shedding across Bangladesh on July 19. However, it has been claimed that power rationing is applied in a discriminatory manner between the capital and the rest of the country.
Nasrul stated that they will reduce the enforcement of power cuts beginning in September by increasing power generation.
