1000+ Private Medical Centers Operating without Liscense

Industry: Healthcare & Pharma, Hospital, Clinic & Diagnostic

A report by the Directorate General of Health Services reveals approximately 1,027 private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, and blood banks operate without valid licenses nationwide, contrasting with the 15,233 authorized counterparts. This information was presented to the High Court by Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy in response to a writ petition. The court, presided over by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah, instructed Roy to submit the report officially and scheduled further hearings for February 18. The petition, initiated by a Supreme Court lawyer and the father of a deceased child, seeks a directive for authorities to provide Tk 1 crore in compensation to the family and to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death post-circumcision at United Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on January 9.
