The government has formulated a project worth Tk 303 crore aimed at enhancing the production of milk, meat, and eggs in the char areas of the Dhaka division. The objective is to increase production by 15 to 20 percent, thereby improving the living conditions of the residents. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock proposed the project, which will be carried out by the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) from July 2023 to June 2027. The project will benefit 65,290 families in 31 upazilas across various districts.
The project consists of ten packages, with one of them focusing on poultry. It entails providing 25 one-week-old chicks, a coop worth Tk 8,800, three months’ feed, and necessary vaccines and medicines. Additionally, livestock and poultry, including calves, goats, sheep, ducks, and chickens, will be donated to around 1,650 families. The calves will be hybrid and approximately one year old, valued at Tk 90,000 each. To ensure sustainability, feed grain, vaccines, and medicines will only be provided for the first 12 months, and information on feeding different types of grass and silage will be shared.
