Senior Commerce Secretary announced that the government of Bangladesh will soon lift the ban on the export of aromatic rice as part of its efforts to diversify exports. Ghosh stated that while not all exporters will be permitted to export aromatic rice, the government will consider applications on a case-by-case basis. Although no official circular has been published yet, exporters are now allowed to export aromatic rice.
He explained that previous exporters who were granted quotas but could not fulfill them will be given the opportunity to export aromatic rice to meet their quota. This move aims to both fulfill the quotas of eligible exporters and promote diversification of the export basket. The government’s decision reflects its commitment to exploring new avenues for export growth and facilitating trade opportunities in the aromatic rice sector.
