In the last fiscal year, Bangladesh generated $1.2 billion in revenue from the export of jute and jute goods, making it a significant contributor to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 1.4 percent. The Director General of the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI), Dr. Md Abdul Awal, highlighted these statistics during a workshop in Dhaka aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the jute sector. The workshop emphasized the need for necessary measures to boost jute and jute goods production. Jute is not only a valuable commercial crop but also an eco-friendly one, absorbing 15 tons of carbon dioxide and releasing 11 tons of oxygen during its 100-day growth cycle. The government is actively working to address issues related to jute seeds and enhance jute production. With initiatives to increase jute goods exports and promote the sector, Bangladesh has secured a significant share of the global jute market, accounting for approximately 72 percent of global export earnings in this sector.

Bangladesh's apparel exports to Canada reached $1.73 billion, a 35.2% increase compared to the previous year, while Vietnam's exports rose by 46.35% to $1.75 billion. The CPTPP provided Vietnam with duty-free access to the Canadian market, leading to its increased market share.
