Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) has achieved successful gas extraction from the Ilisha-1 well for the third time. According to BAPEX’s General Manager of the Geophysical Department, initial estimates suggest that daily gas production of 20 to 22 million cubic feet is possible from the well, with 180 to 220 BCF of gas reserves. However, further testing is required to confirm the production capacity. The Ilisha-1 gas field’s discovery in Bhola provides some hope amidst high global fuel gas prices and crises. Russian company Gazprom carried out the drilling of the well. The gas reserves in these wells are 1.7 TCF cubic feet.
