Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has appointed a contractor for the construction of Dhaka’s third metro rail line, which will span from Hemayetpur to Vatara. The metro rail will cover a distance of 20 km and is estimated to cost approximately 41,238 crore 55 lakh taka (195 million dollars) at a rate of 2,062 crores per kilometer. The joint venture of TOA Corporation from Japan and Spectra Engineers from Bangladesh has been appointed for land development in the Hemayetpur metro rail depot area. The development cost per acre of land for this package is around 12 crore taka. The project is expected to commence in July, and upon completion, it will transport around 1.23 million passengers daily, covering the distance in approximately 32 minutes. DMTCL assures that the construction cost is reasonable, considering the use of modern technology, high-quality infrastructure, import dependencies, land acquisition, and other factors.
