Metro rail to operate from 8am to 8pm from 21 May

Starting from 21 May, the Dhaka metro rail will operate from 8 am to 8 pm six days a week, as confirmed by a source at Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). The new schedule divides the day into four parts, ensuring convenient transportation for commuters throughout the day.

During peak hours from 8 am to 11 am, the metro rail will run every 10 minutes to accommodate the increased passenger demand. From 11 am to 3 pm, which are considered off-peak hours, the frequency will be adjusted to every 15 minutes. The evening peak hours from 3 pm to 6 pm will see trains running every 10 minutes, followed by a switch to a 15-minute frequency from 6 pm to 8 pm, considering the decreasing passenger flow during those hours.

The current weekly closure of the metro rail on Tuesdays will be shifted to Fridays, making it more convenient for office-goers and passengers. The decision to revise the schedule aims to better serve the commuting needs of the public. Previously, the metro rail operated from 8am to 2pm, but with the extended operating hours, more individuals will have access to the efficient transportation system in Dhaka.

The government of Bangladesh has made its final decision to appoint the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), a Saudi Arabian company, as the operator of the Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) under the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA). The Private Public Partnership (PPP) authority is currently handling the appointment process, and the Ministry of Shipping is expected to make the official appointment soon. The CPA has engaged the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as the Transaction Advisor (TA) to establish the terms and conditions for the operator's appointment. Once the IFC submits its report, the final decision will be made.
