Bangladesh is seeing one of the worst diarrhea outbreaks in recent times. Last March, 29 people died from the disease.
About 34,388 patients were admitted to icddr,b from March 16 to 2 pm April 13. Bangladesh has been seeing an average of 1,400 patients per day. The number of patients began to rise at the beginning of the second week of March 2022.
Patients mostly came from Dhaka’s Jatrabari, Gendaria, Shonir Akhra, Khilgaon, and Mohammadpur as well as other nearby districts from Narayanganj and Gazipur. DGHS data shows that in the last 3 months, about 461,611 patients have been admitted to hospitals.
Experts are attributing water pollution to this outbreak and holding WASA responsible.
