The severe congestion in Benapole land port is causing about 10,000 trucks to wait on both sides of the border.
According to port sources as per fiscal year 2021, Bangladeshi exports to India have declined by 42,000 tonnes with average coming down to 50 per day but that has increased in the last 15 days as stated by the Benapole Customs Commissioner.
He further stated that about 100 trucks with Bangladeshi exports went through the land port as opposed to 300-350 trucks with Indian imports.
The increasing number of Indian imports has led to the congestion of Benapole land port as stated by the director of the Indo-Bangla Chamber of Commerce (IBCCI) subcommittee.
About Tk60,000 Crore worth of imports and exports go through the land port said by the industry insiders.
