Government has requested LafarageHolcim Bangladesh Limited to close production from its new crushing unit. A letter was issued on September 16 by the industries ministry after an appeal made by the Baboshai-Sramik Oikya Parishad, Chhatak, Sylhet.
It was stated in the letter that LafarageHolcim could not produce and sell products crushing limestone without legal documents. The company is only authorized to produce cement and clinkers.
The letter sent to the industries ministry by the Baboshai-Sramik Oikya Parishad stated that the company was bringing limestone from India through cross-border conveyor belts as raw materials for cement manufacturing selling the limestone in the open market, which is illegal allowing the company to pay lower taxes to the government compared to its competitors.
