Litchi growers and traders in northern regions such as Dinajpur are expecting significant earnings this season after two years of pandemic-related losses since they are getting better rates for their produce, according to the market’s recent uptick.
However, traders and farmers believe that early this season’s production was limited by poor weather conditions. A litchi bazaar is held every year in the Kalitola neighborhood of Dinajpur municipality. The market has been relocated to the Gor-e-Shahid Moydan since the emergence of Covid-19 in 2020.
Litchi, one of the country’s most popular seasonal fruits, began arriving in markets a few weeks ago, and while availability was originally insufficient given demand, it has seen a substantial surge in the last few days, according to traders.
