Since the coronavirus pandemic began, mobile customers’ monthly internet usage has more than doubled, indicating that more individuals are being forced online for work and enjoyment.According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the average monthly data usage of a single mobile customer was 2 gigabytes (GB) in March 2020 and is presently over 4.5 GB (BTRC).
From 2008 to 2022, the average monthly data usage increased by 23 times, according to BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder.In 2008, Bangladesh’s international internet bandwidth utilization was 7.5 gigabytes per second (Gbps), but it is now 3,850 Gbps. The cost of internet bandwidth per megabit per second was Tk 27,000 in 2008, but it was just Tk 285 in June 2021.
In 2008, only 0.1 per cent of telecom subscribers owned a smartphone; by April 2022, that number had risen to 48 per cent.The country’s tele-density was 34.5 percent in 2008, but it has since risen to 105.85 percent as of April 2022.Sikder went on to claim that the 2G network currently covers 100 per cent of the country’s population, while the 4G network covers 98 per cent.
