The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 has expressed deep concern about the recent surge in coronavirus cases around the world and has advised that masks be worn at all times, social distance be maintained, and health guidelines be followed to prevent the virus from spreading in the country.
According to a press release signed by Mohammad Shahidullah, president of the NTAC, the suggestion was made at the committee’s 57th meeting on Sunday. The group also suggested raising public awareness about the global rise in coronavirus incidence through publicity.
It was also recommended that the competent authorities guarantee that home-bound people from countries where coronavirus cases are on the rise have Covid-19 negative certifications.
The committee also recommended that passenger screening be strengthened at all ports. The committee also recommended wearing masks throughout Eid-ul-Fitr shopping malls, markets, and shops, as well as during travel in different regions of the country.
The Islamic Foundation was also requested to guarantee that health regulations were followed throughout Tarawih prayer and Eid Jamaat. After holding discussions with hospitals and the Directorate General of Health Services, the NTAC asked the Health Ministry to take efforts to offer guidelines to combat Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the committee recommended convening an inter-ministerial conference with NTAC’s participation to alert them to the increase of Covid-19 instances. It also emphasized the importance of genomic sequencing and monitoring.
