The offshore natural gas platform, Sangu has been abandoned for 7 years. Petrobangla, who is also the owner of the platform, has not yet decided whether to utilize the facility by state entities or private entrepreneurs.
According to industry insiders, many international firms want to utilize this facility to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) to regasify and supply located in the Bay of Bengal with a subsea pipeline and onshore gas process plant.
Some sources stated that unlike the other 2 FSRUs (floating, storage, regasification unit), this has the capability to be functional during peak monsoon season supplying gas without interruption.
It has been reported that Vitol Asia was in talks with Petrobangla and its subsidiary, Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd to construct a mini-FSRU supplying around 200 mmcfd of regasified LNG.
