The godown in Laukathi area of Patutakhali has been closed due to the decaying condition of the warehouse disrupting the timely supply of fertilizers among dealers to the farmers from Barishal to Patuakhali. This would affect the Aman cultivation and production.
In Patuakhali, Aman has been cultivated in 2 lakh hectares of land.
The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) has sent a letter to the deputy commissioner of Patuakhali directing dealers to supply fertilizers from the Bangladesh Fertilizer Association (BFA).
Dealers urged the BCIC not to close the godown expressing their concern over the disruption of the supply chain.
As stated by the general manager (marketing) of BCIC, the godown in Patuakhali unusable, decaying and beyond repairable. The godown has leakages in some parts of it causing flooding after heavy rainfall. It has been stated that it would cost Tk31.87 lakh to fix the godown.
The Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Factory Limited (CUFL) tried to repair it unsuccessfully.
