Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, has stated that the government is considering raising petroleum prices beginning next month.
He claimed that the state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) was losing Tk90 crore per day. The price of diesel and octane may be adjusted. The state minister claimed that the BPC’s huge profit of around Tk50,000 crore in the last seven years has already been adjusted with the loss. With effect from November 4, 2021, the government raised diesel and kerosene prices to Tk80 per liter from Tk65. Meanwhile, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal announced on Wednesday that a decision to raise petroleum prices will be made soon.
He did not respond to reports that the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation has made a profit of approximately Tk50,000 crore since 2015.
