The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) published a report that indicates Boro paddy production grew by 1.51% year on year in FY22.
Rice is a staple food in Bangladesh, and over 55% of the nation’s yearly rice production comes from Boro paddy. According to the report, Boro’s output was 2.01 crore tonnes in FY22, whereas it was 1.98 crore tonnes in the fiscal year 2020-21.
A senior BBS official says the true picture cannot be reached if data collection and publication are delayed. If the data had been delivered on time, the government might have implemented the appropriate food security plans nationwide.
