TIB urges govt to reject Adani power deal

Industry: Energy & Power, Power
Industry Intelligence Tag: Industry insights

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has pleaded with the government to cancel the agreement for Bangladesh to purchase 1,600 megawatts of electricity from India’s Adani Power.

The electricity produced at the Adani power plant in Godda, Jharkhand, will cost about three times as much as the electricity produced nationally, according to TIB’s statement. In reputable international analyses, the PDB contract with Adani Power has been considered unfair and opaque, and unprecedentedly discriminatory for Bangladesh.

It is also known that Bangladesh will be required to pay for the entire process, including the cost of the energy used, which is unprecedented in the history of the world’s power industry.
