Last Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase approved 12 proposals which included importing liquified nitrogen gas (LNG), liquid petroleum and wheat. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee also endorsed the installation of a 50MW solar power plant.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) also approved the proposal of purchasing syringes for Covid vaccination specifically to procure 11 Crore auto disable (AD) syringes from local JMI Syringes and Medical Devices.
As for liquid natural gas (LNG) under the proposal Petrobangla will import some 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG (liquefied natural gas) from the international spot market by quotation. On the other hand Vitol Asia Pte, Singapore will also supply LNG at $29.89 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).
For setting up a solar power plant, the Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has approved the proposal to set up a 50MW solar power plant in a joint venture of Hero Future Energies Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore and Business Research International Corporation Inc. (BRIC), Panama in Terkhada area in Khulna where the state-owned Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will buy electricity for 20 years at Tk1,328.90 Crore with a rate of 10.25 US Cents (equivalent to Tk8.20) per kWh.
Another power project is the J&C Impex Ltd, Dhaka for the procurement and installation of the Hot Gas Path Inspection of the Gas Turbine of the 225 MW Shikolbaha Power Station at Chattogram. The value of the contract is Tk102.94 Crore.
For wheat import, the Food Directorate General of Food Ministry has taken the decision to import 50,000 metric tons of wheat paying Tk179.53 Crore from Singapore-based Agrocorp International Pte Ltd.
Additionally, a proposal to import 30,000 metric tons of fertilizer and construction of a number of roads of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has also been approved.
