Red lentil, broiler chicken and other pulses have seen an upturn in prices in the city’s kitchen markets over the week.
It was stated by the traders that the wholesalers increased the prices of red lentils, while the prices of broiler chicken increased because of the increased demand for the item.
Red lentils prices increased by Tk 10 per kilogram (kg) over the week.
The coarse variety of red lentils was sold for Tk 80 to 90 per kg and the medium quality variety was sold for Tk 100 per kg on the market on September 3. The fine variety was sold for Tk 115 to 120 per kg on that day.
Khesari (L sativus) and Mug Beans experienced an increase by Tk 10 to 20 per kg in the retail market in the previous week. Coarse mung bean remained the same at Tk 105 to 115 a kg, however, the finer quality of it increased to Tk 145 to 155 a kg. A maximum 17 per cent increase in prices of common pulses was recorded by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The price of broiler chicken saw an upturn by Tk 10 a kg and the item was selling for Tk 150 to 155 a kg on September 3 in the city’s kitchen markets.
The Sonali variety of chicken was selling for Tk 220 to 230 a kg and the local variety was selling for Tk 500 a kg on the day.
