The private petrochemical and refinery plants might be allowed by the government to continue their operation selling diesel output under the precondition that these companies sell their fuel to the state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
These plants were closed for 16 months as they did not have raw material and their operation was stopped in June 2020 producing petrol.
As the demand for diesel rose, a proposal to allow refineries to continue their operation was submitted by the Petrochemical Refiners Association of Bangladesh (PRAB) requesting Bangladesh Petrochemical Corporation (BPC) to supply raw materials like rich-quality condensate.
The senior secretary of the Energy Mineral and Resource Division (EMRD) stated that they are considering the proposal. Officials of CVO Petrochemical Refinery also held a meeting with the EMRD and BPC officials.
When BPC stopped supplying condensate loans worth Tk20,000 billion remained stuck with 5,000 employees losing their jobs.
