The collection of tax revenue soared as the economy has been enlivening gradually. The revenue grew nearly 15 per cent to Tk 34,548 crore in the July-August period of the current fiscal year from Tk 30,160 crore, according to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The revenue growth was negative 1.50 per cent in the same period last fiscal year-the period.
Despite the prompt uprising, the revenue collector still had a shortfall of Tk 5,215 crore behind its target of Tk 39,759 crore.
The NBR has been tasked with collecting Tk 330,000 crore from the whole of the fiscal year ending in June.
Last FY, the NBR achieved above 20-per cent growth in tax collection despite Covid-induced economic slowdown amid lockdown in different phases. The tax growth was twofold in FY ’21 against its average growth of 10 per cent during the last five fiscal years.
In FY 2019-20, the NBR had collected Tk 280000 crore, registering a negative growth.
For the current FY, the government has set a Tk trillion target for the NBR.
