Sadhan Chandra Majumder, the country’s food minister, warned Wednesday that those who try to destabilize the country’s rice market will face severe consequences.”It doesn’t matter whatever party you belong to; if someone tries to destabilize the rice market, action will be done against the perpetrator,” he stated. Sadhan directed the concerned officials to make the boro paddy procurement a success while also keeping an eye on the market.
“It should be closely supervised so that no one can disrupt the (rice) market,” he said, referring to an unhealthy competition among traders to stockpile paddy. The majority of mill owners are purchasing paddy from the market but not putting it into production, according to the ministry. The minister requested that officials from the Food Department meet as soon as possible with corporate houses involved in the rice business.
Noting that speculations are circulating that India will begin exporting wheat, Sadhan stated that not only India, but several countries around the world have submitted letters showing interest in wheat exports to Bangladesh.
