Despite a fall in share prices of most of the companies as a section of investors went for buying shares of large capitalized companies while many others remained cautious on the trading floor.
Besides, bargain hunters continued their buying interest on major sector issues.
The benchmark bourse of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), DSEX, went up by 36.70 points or 0.50 per cent to stand at 7,288 points within the first 30 minutes of trading.
Two other indices also saw positive trends till then. The DS30 index advanced 13.79 points to stand at 2,690 and the Shariah Index (DSES) gained 5.10 points to stand at 1,583 points till then.
DSEX surge in share prices of some large capitalized companies, including LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, British American Tobacco, Square Pharmaceuticals, Grameenphone and Beximco Pharmaceuticals.
Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 2.69 billion at the beginning hour.
230 advanced, 67 declined while 54 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Eastern Insurance topped the gainers’ list, rising 9.98 per cent while Desh Garments shed the most, falling 7.81 per cent.
The Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) rose yesterday and the CASPI, the general index of the port city bourse, edged by 21 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 21,148. Among 321 traded stocks, 131 advanced, 165 fell and 25 remained unchanged.
