There is a shortage of spaces in customs’ warehouses which has caused about 400 trucks carrying imported goods at the Burimari land port of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat.
The land port authority stated that for the past few weeks large quantities of maize and rice have been imported. There are 3 warehouses with capacity to carry 1,800 tonnes of goods.
A trader at the land port stated that allowing importers to store their imported rice and maize in their own warehouse will solve their problem.
President of Burimari land port carrying and forward (C and F) Agent Association stated that he is discussing the issue with the custom and land port authorities to allow importers using their own warehouse to store their goods given that they pay their VAT and taxes to the government.
