Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on Thursday blocked the Illegal mobile handsets seeking connections to the telecommunication networks. However, the illegal handsets, which were connected to the networks by September 30, will not be blocked.
Out of 1,08,37,359 active handsets as of Thursday, 76,91,246 are legal and 31,46,113 are illegal handsets, said BTRC vice-chairman Subrata Roy Maitra on Thursday. Actions will be taken against the illegal handsets seeking connections to the network afresh from today, stated VC.
The legality of handsets will be detected by the BTRC’s national equipment identification register launched on July 1, 2021 and selling of those has been declared illegal.
Any user can learn whether his or her handsets are legal or not by typing and sending KYD <space> fifteen-digit IMEI number to 16002. The IMEI numbers are printed on the handset’s box and buyers can also find it by dialing *#06#.
