In the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2024-25 financial year (FY25), the Bangladesh government has shifted its focus towards power transmission and distribution system projects, reducing allocations for power generation projects. This strategic move, approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) on May 16, reflects a prioritization of infrastructure needed to effectively utilize the country’s increased power generation capacity.
The allocation for power generation projects has decreased by 6% (Tk1,259.91 crore) compared to the revised ADP of FY24 and by 11.5% compared to the original ADP of FY24, with a total allocation of Tk19,707.89 crore. Notable projects include the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which saw an increased allocation of Tk796 crore to Tk10,502.90 crore, and the Matarbari Coal Power Plant, which experienced a reduced allocation by Tk3,154 crore to Tk6,105.45 crore.
