Bangladesh Ranks 45th in Asia for Primary School Teacher Pay

In Bangladesh, primary school teachers have one of the lowest salaries among Asian countries. Bangladesh ranks 45th in Asia and 7th in South Asia in terms of primary school teacher salary. The average salary for primary school teachers is only $170.02, approximately $62 lower than the country’s average monthly income. Assistant teachers in primary schools receive a salary based on the 13th grade, with a basic salary of 11,000 taka and a total of about 19,500 taka including other allowances. In developed countries, primary school teachers receive significantly higher salaries.

In Luxembourg, the minimum monthly wage for primary school teachers is $5,984, while in Germany it’s $5,799, and in Switzerland, it’s $5,079. Among Asian countries, Singapore tops the list with primary school teachers earning an average salary of $4,203. Bangladesh ranks among the countries with the lowest salaries for primary school teachers, alongside war-torn nations like Lebanon, Laos, Yemen, and Uzbekistan. International organizations like the World Bank and UNESCO are recommending improvements in qualifications and benefits for primary school teachers.
