The rise of Bangladesh’s middle class has driven significant growth in the market for electronics and motorcycles within the country. Previously reliant on imports for such products, Bangladesh now sees a thriving market fueled by both domestic and foreign investment. Government policies and incentives have played a crucial role in this transformation.
According to a presentation by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the majority of electronic products, including motorcycles, refrigerators, air conditioners, and mobile phones, are now supplied to the Bangladesh market through local production. This shift has been facilitated by consistent policy support for production-oriented industries.
The NBR presentation highlighted that domestic and foreign brands producing locally occupy a significant portion of the market share. For instance, 95% of the motorcycle market, 90% of the refrigerator market, 85% of the air conditioner market, and 65% of the mobile phone market are dominated by local manufacturers.
