The Adani Group has proposed an expansion of its coal power plant in Godda district, Jharkhand, to supply more electricity to Bangladesh. A five-member delegation from Adani Group, led by Pranav Adani, Director of Adani Enterprises, discussed potential investment opportunities with Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at his office in the capital on Wednesday.
Currently, Bangladesh receives between 900 and 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Adani’s Godda power plant, which has a total generation capacity of 1,600 MW. Pranav Adani expressed optimism about the investment prospects in Bangladesh, stating that there are significant opportunities to explore further investments in the country.
Data up to February of this year indicates that the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) owes approximately Tk 52.97 billion for electricity purchased from Indian suppliers, with Adani Power alone accounting for Tk 36.37 billion of this amount.
