At a recent DCCI seminar, it was revealed that almost 60% of Bangladeshi farmers are unbanked, relying on local moneylenders and traders who charge 30-70% interest. The agriculture sector contributes 14% to GDP and employs 41% of the labor force. Post-harvest losses are $2.5 billion annually, with 44% of perishable food wasted due to inadequate storage and transport. Smart agriculture practices could boost productivity by 20-30%, reduce input costs by 20%, and increase incomes by 30-40%. An updated database and improved supply chain infrastructure are needed to enhance the sector.
