Summit halted LNG re-gasification operations on 30 May after its Floating Storage and Re-gasification Unit (FSRU) was damaged by a stray pontoon during cyclone Remal, reducing re-gasification by 40% to 600 mmcfd from the previous day’s 1.0 Bcfd. This disruption may force Petrobangla to ration gas supplies and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to rely more on oil-fired power plants. Summit notified Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) about the incident. Before the cyclone, the country’s natural gas output was around 3.10 Bcfd, with LNG re-gasification at 1.10 Bcfd, which dropped to 320 mmcfd during the cyclone. A Bureau Veritas technical team assessed the FSRU damage, and Summit invoked the force-majeure provision to avoid penalties.
